Josh heads down to Virginia backcountry to search for the legendary hidden Beale Treasure, made famous by Thomas Beale. In the 19th century, James Ward published the papers written by Beale, who supposedly found the small fortune of gold and silver in 1817 in the American southwest. Beale created three numerical book code ciphers, which provide the location, content, and names of the treasure's owners. Only the 2nd cipher describing the content of the treasure has been decoded using the Declaration of Independence as the key. After making a quick stop in Lynchburg, Josh heads down to Bedford County, Virginia where he stops by the old Buford's Tavern off the side of the road. The solved 2nd cipher describes the treasure being within a four-mile radius of the tavern. In order to get a bird's eye view of the area, Josh meets up with Mike Evans, a respected Beale treasure hunter who agrees to take Josh up in his airplane. Josh and Mike hope to find evidence of these old trails in order to narrow their search. They land and meet up with Mike's partner Steve Cole and drive off into the wilderness to search the area. After spending a night next to a campfire under the stars, Josh, Mike, and Steve head out into the forest following the river since they believe Thomas Beale may have stashed the treasure near a waterfall. Near an old dam, their treasure hunting turns up a few artifacts including a surprisingly old coin but not Beale's hidden cache. Deciding to test other theories, Josh heads to the Bedford County Museum to do some more research. Josh explores the theory that the Beale Treasure may be a hoax concocted by James Ward in a ploy to sell pamphlets. Josh's research shows that James Ward was a member of the Freemasons, notorious for using encoded message. He hops a train to Philadelphia and goes to the Grand Masonic Temple. At the temple, Josh meets with Michael Comfort, who sheds some light on Freemasonry's popularity and James Ward's Masonic past. With new information, Josh heads back to Bedford to meet with another treasure hunter named Justin Cannady. Justin is in possession of an early version of the Declaration of Independence, that when put under a black light shows the initials TJB. Justin believes the document is a map to the treasure, and one has to line up the ripped portion atop the paper with the topography of the hills to determine its location. Josh and Justin head out on river rafts and test the theory. When Josh finds a spot that lines up almost perfectly with the rips in the document, can they find the famed Beale fortune? Or will it end up being a historic hoax?
Josh heads to the Far East of Japan after hearing of new evidence of the whereabouts of the missing and mystical Honjo Masamune sword. A priceless treasure that had been passed down for generations, the Honjo, like all ceremonial swords, was required to be handed over to the Allies at the end of WWII. Rather than being taken out of Japan after WWII, new evidence suggests that the sword is actually still in Japan. Josh begins his quest for the missing Masamune in Tokyo, Japan at the Mejiro Police Station where the sword was supposedly surrendered. The patriarch of the Tokugawa family, the last official owners of the sword before the War, provides Josh with background on the sword and its status as an important symbol for Japan. After taking some time to explore the more unique offerings of Tokyo's Red Light District, Josh meets with a black market sword dealer. The dealer tells Josh of how every samurai sword, both sold officially and through the black market, are documented with certificates to validate their authenticity. So even if one finds a sword he believes to be the Masamune, without the proper documentation one cannot be sure. Josh next heads south to Kamakura, Japan where the Honjo Masamune was forged. He meets with one of Masamune's descendants, who allow Josh to help forge a new sword in his shop. Josh follows up on the dealer's lead and heads to Nagano, Japan where he meets Michael Gakuran, an urban explorer. They explore the former underground Imperial Headquarters in the Matushiro tunnels, where the Honjo may be buried. After their exploration fails to yield results, Josh decides to get into the mindset of the samurai and begins his own Samurai training. Josh's sensei sends Josh up the icy mountains of Nagano to the Mt Togakushi Shirne. Shrines are said to have great treasure stored and perhaps the Honjo may be there. But can Josh trek the snowy mountain to reach the hidden shrine? Will Josh's harsh hike yield the mythical Honzo sword?

New evidence suggests that cenotes, dark flooded underground caverns, under Mayan cities may hold the key to understanding the collapse of the once great Mayan people. Josh's journey begins in Cancun. He drives down the coast to the ruins of Tulum, the City of the Dawn. There, Josh meets with archaeologist Carmen Rojas who tells about the size and reach of the Mayan Empire. Next, Josh heads to the ruins of Coba, where he climbs up the tallest Mayan ruin: the Ancient Pyramid. From atop the pyramid, Josh takes in the wide view of the surrounding jungle and marvels at the immense structures the Mayans created. After leaving Coba, Josh heads back to Tulum where he takes part in the annual Day of the Dead festival. He gets in the spirit by sampling the local delicacies, dancing in the street, and even getting a Day of the Dead makeover.
Josh heads to the deserts of Peru to investigate the mystery of the giant, sprawling geoglyphs drawn in the desert sands of Peru. Evidence of new lines in the landscape may hold the key to the 2,000-year-old mystery and finally explain the purpose of the lines. Josh heads over to where he surveys the desert from above to get a glimpse at the gigantic figures. Josh aims to determine if the lines were used as a massive astronomical calendar, or as some fringe theorists believe: built with the help of aliens. Additionally, another theory suggests that the lines were used in drug-fueled rituals as ways of communicating with the gods. The hummingbird, heron, and condor glyphs all point to the rising sun of the summer solstice, so they lend some credence to the calendar theory. While there is a glyph that looks oddly like an alien or an astronaut, Josh recreates a line with some string, paddles, sticks and a little geometry, promptly disproving the alien theory. Lastly, Josh heads to Cahuachi Temple in the middle of the desert, which was an extremely spiritual religious site for the Nazca people. There, Josh participates in a traditional psychedelic ritual to try to get in the mindset of the Nazca when they were communing with their gods. Josh concludes that the lines were clearly drawn to reach out to their gods but he wants to know why. Josh meets with an archaeologist who takes him up in a plane above the deserts, where he gets a glimpse at the newly discovered Nazca Lines: a snake, a bird, and strange zig-zag lines. Josh's expert tells him these lines were most likely made by the Nazca people's predecessors: the Paracas. With a new lead, Josh heads to the coastal town of Paracas, Peru to learn about the ancient people. A local biologist takes Josh out onto the water and shows him a giant candelabra glyph drawn into a hillside by the Paracas around 200 BC. This expert believes that the candelabra glyph (in conjunction with the hummingbird glyph in Nazca) points towards water. Josh heads back to Nazca to meet with Brien Forrester who believes that the Nazca Lines are a sort of map to underground water tunnels. Brien takes Josh to a series of intersecting lines to the east to test the theory. What will Josh discover at the intersection? Can these discoveries validate any of the theories explaining the purpose of the Nazca Lines?
Josh travels to Cambodia to investigate the lost city of the Khmer Empire that was recently discovered by archeologists. Jayavarman II, an ancient God King, ruled the city over 1,000 years ago, and Josh hopes to recover the ruler's mystical linga, a sacred stone artifact that gave him the ability to incinerate his enemies. Josh's adventure begins in Phonm Penh, Cambodia where he meets journalist Nick Ray to discuss the lost city. Nick warns Josh about landmines leftover from a former Communist regime that line the trail to the lost city. Nick suggests Josh should travel from Phnom Penh by 4x4 through the city of Battambang and then to the ancient capital of Siem Reap, which is just 30 miles from the dig site. Josh travels to Battambang to interview an antiquities expert, but on the way, he hits impenetrable traffic and must take a makeshift train to the city. There, Josh's contact reveals that tomb raiders are targeting the lost city and looking for the linga. To reach the city of Siem Reap, the gateway to the lost city, Josh travels by boat through a floating village on the water. At the edge of Siem Reap, Josh interviews Aki Ra, an explosives expert, who teaches him how to locate and detonate landmines. Josh finally arrives in Siem Reap to meet with John Miksic, an expert on the Khmer Empire, who knows the coordinates of the lost city. John flies Josh in a helicopter to the remote village of Prea Ang Thom for the final leg of his journey. After getting blessed at mystical temple, Josh rents a motorcycle and cruises up to the ruins of the lost city to search for the God King's sacred linga. There he meets Chen, one of the archeologists on site, who believes he is excavating part of the God King's royal compound. Using hi-tech laser scanners, known as LiDAR, the excavators have stripped back the jungle and pinpointed more of the ruins. Just up the trail is Jean Baptiste Chevance, the lead archaeologist who shows Josh a massive monastery he's excavating. Josh believes the linga must be at the top of the mountain where the God King conducted his mystical ceremony. An assistant named Pich leads him up the mountain. With night closing in and a thunderstorm on the horizon, Josh and Pich hike by torchlight to a secret location the archeologists have just discovered. Josh examines ancient carvings that are 1,200 years old, and the inscriptions suggest it was a place used for rituals. After crossing a dangerous bridge, Pich leads Josh to a perfectly preserved stone yoni, another artifact used by the God King in conjunction with the mystical linga. Will Josh find the powerful, coveted relic amidst the ruins of the temple?
