Storyline and cast
Steampunk’d is an American reality series broadcast by the Game Show Network (GSN). Hosted by fashion expert and TV personality Jeannie Mai, the new design competition series premiered on August 19, 2015.
Inspired by the success of Project Runway, Steampunk’d is a new competition series that seeks to discover the most talented steampunk designer. Taking a futurist approach to creating fashion and technology, contestants — called “Makers” — work in teams to complete design challenges that test their abilities to turn everyday things into masterpieces of steampunk style. Over the course of eight episodes, Makers compete for the chance to be crowned a true master and win a $100,000 grand prize.
Thomas Willeford, Matt King and Kate “Kato” Lambert join host Jeannie Mai as the series’ panel of judges and bonafide steampunk authorities. Produced by Pink Sneakers Production and executive produced by Kimberly Belcher Ehrhard, John Ehrhard, Lauren Stevens and Jennifer J. Duncan, Steampunk’d is filmed in Los Angeles with a cast of ten contestants.
Among the “Makers” are pastry chef and leather maker, Charles Mason, an X-ray technitian and custom watches designer James Neathery, former tattoo artist and costume designer Karianne Gottschalk, designer of moving sculptures and taxidermy wearable art Ave Rose, single mom and adult novelty shop purveyor Niki “Lady Hawk” Phillips, A self-described “super geek” and theater trained performance artist Tobias McCurry, among others.
